In the face of some of the highest electricity prices Ireland has ever experienced, the Irish Government has announced a new round of credits for residential electricity customers this year.
Irish electricity customers will receive a €450 credit distributed across three instalments, providing financial relief across the winter months.
No need to lift a finger – if you're a residential electricity customer with an Irish supplier, the credit will automatically be applied to your account. Please note that the credit is exclusive to electricity customers and not available for gas-only customers.
Here's a breakdown of when you can anticipate the credits on your bill:
- First Instalment: Between November 1 and December 31, 2023
- Second Instalment: Between January 1 and February 28, 2024
- Third Instalment: Between March 1 and April 30, 2024
If the credit covers your entire first bill, the remaining credit will roll over to the next one. And if you decide to switch providers while still in credit, no worries - your supplier will refund the excess to your bank account used for bill payments.
Switching is one of the best ways to save money on your electricity bills. Unfortunately, loyalty no longer pays and suppliers reserve their best discounts for new customers.
