Benefits of energy efficiency
Insulate yourself from rising energy prices
Energy prices are known to fluctuate seasonally, but have certainly risen within the last decade. This is of course is likely to keep rising with increased carbon taxes. By investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy today, you could start cutting your energy bills to avoid being financially impacted by the unpredictable energy prices of the future.
Reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a more sustainable Ireland
The effects of global warming are said to be irreversible by 2030. All of us have a responsibility to act on climate change, and improving our home’s energy performance is a significant step in decreasing our collective carbon footprint.

What are the eligible works?
BER Certificate
A Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate indicates your building's energy performance. It is similar to the energy label for household appliances. The rating is a simple A to G scale. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and will tend to have the lowest energy bills.
BERs are published by independent assessors registered with the SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland).
Electric vehicles
An electric vehicle can reduce your transport fuel costs by 74% compared to a similar diesel engine car. You can save up to €10,000 off the cost of an electric vehicle when you apply for an SEAI grant and avail of the 0% VRT incentive.
Costing €120 per annum, electric vehicles have the lowest rate of motor tax available.
Insulation
Properly insulating your home is an environmentally-friendly move that could save you a fortune over the years and are better for the environment too. You can save up to €6,000 off the cost of insulating your home when you plan for an SEAI grant.
Heating control systems
Installing heating control system in your home allows you to control the temperature in each room and your hot water separately. Heating Controls can be installed both as a wired and wireless system giving you a range of options for controls and the placement of your boiler. Grants up to €700 are available from the SEAI.
Heat pumps
Heat-pumps are electrical devices which convert energy from the air outside of your home into useful heat. In well insulated houses they are very economical to run. Grants of up to €3,500 are available from SEAI.
Solar water heating
Solar thermal systems are designed to meet 50-60% of your overall hot water requirement over the year, thereby saving you money on your annual hot water heating bills. Heating your water with solar thermal will reduce your energy consumption. Grants of up to €1,200 are available from SEAI.
Solar photovoltaics (PV)
Solar Photovoltaics (PV), capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic cells which convert the sunlight into clean and silent electricity, to power your home, business or farm. SEAI offer homeowners a grant of up to €3,000 to support the installation of solar panels for electricity generation and battery energy storage systems.
